The Bhardwaj Life

My Facebook notifications recently reminded us that it's been four years since my first trip to India (who says Facebook is useless)! Wow! I don't even know where the time has gone?! So I thought to share the adventures (beware of the monkeys!)!

A few weeks ago we decided to head to Al Qudra Lakes for the morning. A little Oasis in the Saih Al Salam Desert. The lake is located by the Dubai Cycling Track (which looks pretty cool too!) and is a popular destination for camping, picnics, BBQs, and suntanning on the weekends. We reached by 8am so it was still pretty quiet and the sun hadn't broken through the clouds making for a pleasant experience.

Jasper is a serine National Park located within the Canadian Rockies. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second largest dark sky preserve in the world. The mountain getaway is surrounded by towering peaks and rugged mountains, glaciers, untouched wilderness, turquoise lakes, alpine meadows, and wild rivers. Most likely you'll see elk, bighorn sheep, deer, coyote and black bears.

Perhaps the word romantic is not an adjective you would often hear when describing India. In reality India is full of romantic locales with white sand beaches, snow capped mountains, monuments dedicated to a beloved wife, and luxury all-inclusive resorts.

When we travel I love to collect little souvenirs. There's always a stackful of magnets or postcards that make their way home with us. I've been looking for a few creative ideas of how to organize and showcase all the beautiful pieces and here are my top picks!

My favourite monument in Delhi is Safarjung Tomb. It was the first tourist attraction I visited in Delhi so it will always hold a special place in my heart. It's also a quiet escape from the craziness outside the compounds walls on Lodhi Road! Built between 1753-1754 by Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula, the son of Safdarjung. Safdarjung tomb represents the last phase of the Mughal style architecture being built in red sandstone and buff stone and follows a similar pattern of Humayun Tomb. Located inside are two graves - those of - Safdarjung and his wife.

1. Chai
My love for chai is a fairly new phenomenon ie. after being married to an Indian. I love masala chai, and ginger chai, and my absolute favourite is cardamom chai! Who knew everyday required morning chai and evening chai?

This week the Hubby and I came across the Circle Cafe/Sushi Counter on a road trip to Al Ain and thought sure, why not have sushi in the desert?!? The beautiful decor looked like it was straight out of Pinterest! We decided on the Shrimp Avocado California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and a Crab Rice Paper Salad.

My husband and I love anything adventure and took the chance to go rafting on the Elk River with Mountain High Adventures in Fernie, British Columbia. The 4 hour drive from Calgary is a delightful drive through the mountain scenery. We met our friends and set up camp for the evening at one of the local campgrounds. In the morning we headed to the meeting point and boarded a bus that would take us to the river.

I may have been one of the few people on Earth not to have a desire to go to Paris, well, that changed after my Husband and I had roughly 24hrs to visit the city. We decided to take a more leisurely pace and had lots of fun!

1. Take an Abra Cruise
A traditional way of crossing from Bur Dubai to Deira are the beautiful abra taxis. The crossing lasts approximately 5 minutes and costs 1AED. Otherwise you can hire a private charter, we paid 60AED for a 1 hour cruise along the creek during sunset. Make sure to walk through the Gold Souk when you're on the Deira side of the creek!

My husband and I visited Yellowstone National Park in the summer of 2013. We were lucky enough to have time to enjoy 2 days in the park plus 2 days for travelling. Definitely a must for anyone who has the chance to visit this spectacular National Park! Scroll to the end of the page for our Yellowstone vlog!

On my first trip to India over 2 years ago I spent countless hours researching on what to bring to India. Soon after arriving I discovered everything I had passionately packed could be found in any local market or mall. Here are my tips on things you DON'T need to bring!

A) Age you went on your first international trip:
My first international trip was to Florida at the age of 9 with my Grandparents. I would consider my first "real" international trip to be at the age of 21 to Australia. I spent 6 months backpacking Brisbane, Noosa, Cairns, and Darwin.

After leaving the nightmarish traffic of Bangalore we headed to the more peaceful Pune for a quick 4 day visit with Family. With kids in tow we spent the first day at Adlabs Imagica Theme Park, halfway between Mumbai and Pune. Chachi (Me) and Chacha (Husband) had immense fun chasing around the little ones and experiencing all the rides. Best part - no long line ups!

As a side trip from Bangalore we decided to go to the district of Coorg in Karnataka. I had read and heard many great things about the area and it was suppose to be amazing during Monsoon season! We took an A/C Volvo bus to Kushal Nagar, upon arrival at the bus station the owner of Iyris the Home Stay picked us up and escorted us to his home.
